In reading about the housing market in Detroit, I have only come across one article regarding artists and other folks reclaiming the city. I think it is brilliant, with ideas like retooling old homes to make them more efficient and eco-friendly (not to mention the great deals on the homes themselves). If it weren't so darned far away, I would come up and check it out (I am in KC). Honestly, in looking at Google Street View, Detroit looks kind of creepy with all of the open space. I suppose the other side of that is that the open space is there to use and enjoy! I will continue to check in on your blog, and I wish all the best!

I purchased a home in what I think is the Littlefield neighborhood. Manor Rd near the Fred Butzel Playfield.

I will be needing a plumber for sure as there are lots of burst pipes. Once I close and have full access to the property I am sure I will have more things to take care of.

Do you have any recommendations or warnings about plumbers/electricians, etc.

All the best,
Tracy

Is there anyway a student, not enrolled at U of M or the Dutch Art Institute could help?

I have really enjoyed reading your blog posts. But that is one really disturbing house for me.
